This paper argues for the urgent creation of a progressive third-party movement in response to the Democratic Party’s deepening ideological divide and failure to deliver transformative change. Drawing on personal experiences and historical analysis, I highlight how the party’s centrist orientation has alienated younger and more radical voters, particularly in the face of pressing issues like climate justice, racial equity, and economic reform. The paper outlines the benefits of a third party—including increased voter engagement, policy innovation, and greater accountability—while acknowledging structural challenges such as the winner-take-all electoral system and the spoiler effect. Proposed solutions include ranked-choice voting and the abolition of the Electoral College. Ultimately, the paper calls for progressives to abandon efforts to reform the Democratic Party from within and instead build a new political force rooted in working-class solidarity and uncompromising advocacy for justice.
